Ghana’s Black Stars are on the brink of missing out on Africa Cup of Nations qualification for the first time in 20 years following a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Sudan at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benghazi, Libya. 

This result puts the Black Stars in a precarious position as they face an uphill battle to secure their place in the tournament in Morocco next year. 

Despite having the upper hand in their first meeting against Sudan, Ghana struggled to convert chances and was ultimately overwhelmed by Sudan’s quickfire goals.

Sudan capitalized on its opportunities with two quick goals in the second half, sealing Ghana’s fate. The Black Stars, who failed to register a single shot on target by halftime, now find themselves languishing in third place in their qualifying group, needing to win their remaining matches to have any hope of qualification. 

Coach Otto Addo’s future may be in jeopardy as scrutiny intensifies over Ghanaian football’s decline.
