CHAN 2024: CAF Increases Winner’s Prize Money by 75%, Now Set at $3.5 Million
The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has made headlines with a substantial increase in the prize money for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) set to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in 2024.
In an exciting announcement, CAF revealed that the prize for the tournament winner will rise by an impressive 75%, bringing the total to a staggering USD 3.5 million. This increase is part of a broader enhancement, with the total prize pool for the CHAN now reaching USD 10.4 million, marking a 32% boost overall.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament, stating, “We are excited about the upcoming CHAN and have significantly increased the prize money for the winner to USD 3.5 million. This reflects our commitment to the development and growth of Africa-based football players and talented young athletes.”
The CHAN serves as a pivotal platform for showcasing homegrown talent and enhancing the global competitiveness of African football. Dr. Motsepe emphasized the tournament’s importance in attracting fans, sponsors, and partners, stating, “This competition is part of our strategy to invest in African football, making it appealing and attractive to stakeholders worldwide.”
Scheduled to kick off on February 1, 2025, the tournament will culminate in a final on February 28, 2025. A total of 17 countries have already secured their spots in the competition, including hosts Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, alongside strong contenders like Morocco, Senegal, and Nigeria. Two more teams will join the fray following the conclusion of the remaining qualifying rounds.
