Kofi Adams: The State of Sports Infrastructure in Ghana Is Not Good
Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams delivered a sobering assessment of Ghana’s sports infrastructure, declaring it to be in a poor state in a revealing interview on the Citi Breakfast Show.
His remarks come amid criticism of his decision to publicize the Black Stars’ budget just two days before the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.
During a recent tour of various sports facilities, including the Borteyman Complex, Baba Yara Stadium, and the Youth Resource Centre at Nyinahin, Adams expressed his disappointment. “Well, it [the current state of sports infrastructure] is not good. I am not impressed with the availability of infrastructure,” he stated.
He emphasized the urgent need for upgrades, including plans for a new stadium at the Borteyman site, envisioning it as a comprehensive sports city.
“It’s [building the stadium] doable. We want to do a minimum of 50,000 seats,” Adams added, referring to the ambitious project meant to enhance the country’s sporting capabilities and create a vibrant environment for athletes and fans alike.
The Borteyman Sports Complex was initially constructed to host the 2023 African Games, but Adams’ comments indicate a broader concern about the overall quality and maintenance of sports facilities across the nation.
