Beverage manufacturer, Kasapreko and cosmetics firm, Ghandour Cosmetics are the first two companies in the country to take advantage of the African Free Continental Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) since its commencement on January 1, 2021.

Sources indicate the two firms have already obtained the necessary documentations and certifications for waivers of duties and tariffs on exports to African countries under the trade agreement.

Speaking to the media, the International Business Development Director of Kasapreko Company Limited, Francis Alomo, noted the company’s first shipment of beverage products will be heading for South Africa.

“We have acquired our Certificate of Origin (CoO) and our first consignment will be going to South Africa quota free and duty free,” he said.

“It is a big opportunity for us to be competitive in South Africa,” he added.

Just like Kasapreko and Ghandour Cosmetics, several other businesses in the country are expected to acquire the necessary certifications from the mandated state institutions – Ghana Revenue Authority and Ministry of Trade and Industry – for duty free and quota free exports to other African countries.
