The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has expressed commitments to support government’s set goals for Ghanaian business particularly Ghanaian women-led and women-owned small and medium enterprises (SMEs) under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement.

The move by the UNDP follows calls for the development partner to push the agenda of women-led and women-owned businesses on the continent.

Speaking to the media at a joint workshop organized by the UNDP and ECOWAS for women traders, Economic advisor to the UNDP office in Ghana, Frederick Mushiga, noted the UNDP is working assiduously with government to ensure that women traders become successful under the AfCFTA.

Adding, the UNDP is also having discussions with Customs to allow quick passage of goods particularly perishable goods of women traders across the border to other African countries.

The workshop sought to deliver capacity building programme for women traders and producers in the ECOWAS region and guide them on market entry under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

It also aimed at fostering direct linkages between SMEs in the ECOWAS region and SMEs and trade groups in Central, East and Southern Africa. Various trade facilitation agencies will provide practical information to guide market entry and operations for SMEs.
