ICUMS implementation team begins 10-day refresher training of stakeholders in Oti and Volta Regions

Ghana Link Network Services Ltd in collaboration with Customs – Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority GRA have begun another round of refresher training for users of the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS).

The training which is currently ongoing in the Northern part of Ghana is expected to cover Ho Collection, Nyive, Shia, Batume Junction, Kpetoe and others all in the Oti and Volta Regions.

The Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) implementation team, on Monday, April 26, begun the 10-day-refresher training of customs officers and freight forwarders equipping these stakeholders especially Customs Officials and the freight forwarders in the designated area on new developments and modules on the ICUMS.

The refresher training by the ICUMS implementation team is led by Deputy Commissioner of Customs and Chairman for the implementation team of the new trade facilitation system – Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) – Emmanuel Ohene for the Oti Regions and AC Policy and Programs Solomon Kusi for the team in Ho with the aim also to onboard all remaining customs stations in the two regions which have so far not been hooked onto any of the electronic platforms of the Customs Division.

“This training will also train customs officers and freight forwarders in the regions on the proper usage of the ICUMS system and update them on some new developments in the system to further enhance trade facilitation and improve revenue collection,” Deputy Commissioner of Customs and Chairman for the implementation team of ICUMS – Emmanuel Ohene said.

He added that “the ultimate is to introduce and provide an efficient and effective and proven custom tool (ICUMS) that will enhance trade facilitation and improve revenue collection in customs offices nationwide by educating Customs officers on the new decentralization drives in ICUMS.”

All customs stations under Oti and Ho collection points will be participating in the 10-day-long training. Modules to be taught customs officers and freight forwarders during the training include; Headload/TVI procedure, General clearance/ Cargo management, Classification, Valuation and Compliance, AfCFTA trading implementation processes among others.

The training will be replicated at the various customs stations across the country.

In order for a country to facilitate trade, maximize and ultimately optimize revenue collection as well as ensure safety and security at the borders, it needs a comprehensive and modern trade facilitation solution to manage these functions effectively and efficiently which solution is the ICUMS which has been deployed nationwide since June 1, 2020.
