Inflation rate for end-June 2021 according to data made available by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), stood at 7.8 percentage points.

The posted inflation rate for the end-June 2021 marks a 0.3 percentage points increase compared to the 7.5 percentage points inflation rate recorded for end-May 2021.

The recorded increase in the headline inflation for June 2021, according to government’s statistician, Professor Samuel Annim, is on the account of price increases in transport and food.

Price increases in transport can mainly be attributed to increment in the prices of fuel at the local pumps.

“June 2021 inflation was 7.8%. The return to an upwards inflationary trend this month is mainly driven by increases in the contribution of Food and Transport to overall inflation,” he stated.

According to the GSS, month-on-month inflation between May and June 2021 was 1.3 percent, 0.5 percentage point higher than what was recorded in May. – 0.8 percent.

Food inflation for the month of June registered an increment of 1.9 percentage points from the 5.4 percentage points recorded in May 2021 to 7.3 percentage points recorded in June 2021.
