Sixteen (16) out of twenty-three (23) airlines that operated at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) prior to its closure during the pandemic have begun operations.
This was disclosed by President Akufo-Addo in his 17th televised address to the nation on measures put in place by his government to fight the Covid-19 pandemic on Sunday evening.
The president in his last address to the nation, announced the reopening of the airport, signalling the country’s reintegration with the rest of the world.
In his update on Sunday evening, he expressed concern over the fact that the protocols passengers are to follow prior to their entry into the country have so far been flouted by some.
According to the president, since the reopening of KIA, a total number of 10,061 passengers have so far arrived at KIA out of which 26 have tested positive for Covid-19.
He underscored the need for all passengers arriving in Ghana to be in possession of a negative Covid-19 PCR test result from an accredited laboratory in the country of origin.
In addition, he pledged, as the president of the nation, to protect the people from the importation of the virus into the country.
