‘Our game plan worked’ – Maxwell Konadu after Hearts of Oak draw

The Royals played out a 0-0 draw with Hearts at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, becoming the fifth side to deny the Phobians a win on the opening day of a league season in the last five campaigns.

Head coach, Maxwell Konadu in his post-match interview says his side succeeded with their plan to restrict Hearts of Oak, following their draw on Sunday.

“We came with a game plan. Though not perfect, we were able to hold them, trying to frustrate them with our combination passes and to some extent, it worked.”

The gaffer also admitted his side made some wrong calls in the early stages with their build-up from defence but said they will be working on it in subsequent games.

“We made some elementary mistakes because playing from the back was a bit difficult. We will go on to work on it and make sure we do it better next time,” he concluded.

The draw meant Maxwell Konadu still remains unbeaten in five competitive games against Hearts of Oak.

Legon Cities goalkeeper Eric Antwi, who won man of the match in the game versus Hearts also described the encounter as a difficult one.

He was the difference between a draw and loss for Legon Cities, pulling up with incredible saves to stop the reigning champions as his side had to deal with a plethora of attacks from Hearts of Oak.

“It was a very, very hard game because playing against the league champions isn’t easy. But I think our players did well and a draw away is not bad. We still have to work hard. We have more matches to play and our next game is RTU, we have to focus on that game and take the three maximum points,” he said in a post-match interview.

Following their draw, Legon Cities find themselves at the 12th position with Hearts below them at the 13th position on the league table.
