Stanbic Bank supports 46th SWAG Awards

Stanbic Bank Ghana has presented a cheque of GHS 20,000 to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) in support of the 2021 SWAG Awards to be held on December 17, 2021.

Presenting the cheque to Executives of SWAG, Head of Brand and Marketing at Stanbic Bank Ghana, Mawuko Afadzinu, said the bank’s support for the sporting fraternity is in recognition of the fact that sports is a critical pillar in the country’s development.

“Stanbic Bank’s relationship with SWAG dates back to some 15 years ago and it is in recognition of the fact that the sporting fraternity is a critical pillar of the country’s development; not only does it drive wellness, but it also feeds into the passion of the nation and has so much influence on the positivity in the country. We haven’t been able to quantify this positivity but it is there for all to see.

“So, our association with SWAG is not by accident. It is very intentional and there is a clear design behind it. Our support will not stop now. Indeed, we are looking forward to demonstrating the value you bring to the country so that we even increase the level of sponsorship we give to SWAG,” Mr. Afadzinu said.

“Stanbic Bank is delighted at the opportunity to partner with SWAG It is an opportunity that we have and we are glad we still extended that opportunity to us. It is not something we take lightly, we consider this relationship a very valuable one, so we are glad to be here today to support you as you recognize the efforts of our sports men and women. We will continue to find other ways of ensuring that sports blossoms in the country because if truth needs to be told when sports is good, the mood of the country lifts,” Mr. Afadzinu added.

The President of SWAG, Kwabena Yeboah, on behalf of the association thanked Stanbic Bank for the support they have given to the sports fraternity and the activities of the association over the years.

He said, “We want to show our appreciation to Stanbic Bank for their continuous support for our activities. We don’t take this lightly at all because SWAG does not generate funds. We are a group of journalists who have taken it upon ourselves to honour distinguished sports men and women every year.”

“Without outfits like Stanbic Bank, who appreciate the need to honour the sports men and women who look up to the SWAG Awards every year, it wouldn’t have been possible. A number of institutions drag their feet when it comes to supporting the SWAG Awards but we are very appreciative of institutions like Stanbic Bank who share our vision and passion and support us relentlessly,” Kwabena Yeboah added.

SWAG, the umbrella body for the sports media in Ghana, is the body solely responsible for honouring Ghanaian sportsmen and women who excel both locally and internationally. The SWAG Awards have been held every year since 1973. The 2021 SWAG Awards Night will be held on December 17, 2021 at the Accra International Conference Center.
