GPRTU embarks on a sit down strike

The Northern Regional branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union [GPRTU] of TUC, has embarked on a sit down strike action which started at 5am on Monday, December 6, 2021.

The Northern Regional branch of the [GPRTU] in embarking on the strike action, called on all affiliates and local branches in the region.

According to the group, the strike action is in pursuant to the directives of the coalition of commercial operators in Ghana.

The Union asserts that the strike will go on until the government heeds to their cry and meet their demands to fully scrap all taxes imposed on the pump prices of petroleum products to ease the burden it has placed on Ghanaians.

The union furthered that all it’s members and affiliate of the coalition should do their best to comply with the directives and also appealed to the general public to bear with the directives given.

“In pursuance of the directives of the coalition of commercial transport operators in Ghana, all branches and locals of the GPRTU, Northern Region and all affiliates of the coalition in the Northern Region to embark on a sit down strike from 5am on Monday 6th December, 2021. 

The sit down strike would remain in force until our demands are fully met by the government.

We entreat all our members and all affiliates of the coalition to fully comply with this directive, we also wish to appeal to the general public to bear with the coalition on its stance in order for the government to scrap all taxes on the pump prices of petroleum product to ease the burden on Ghanaians”, stated the Union in a press statement.
