South Africa want pre-AFCON friendly with Ghana

Ghana and South Africa could meet again despite the alleged bad blood between the two football associations after the 2022 World Cup qualifier in November.

South Africa has written to Ghana requesting a friendly match before the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations next year, reports suggest.

South Africa didn’t qualify for the continental showpiece due to their defeat to the Ghana in the last qualifying game in Group G.

SAFA want this friendly as part of plans put in place to prepare their relatively young squad for future assignments.

Head coach Hugo Broos appreciates sportsmanship of the Black Stars and wants his side to once again play the four-time African champions.

The friendly match would also benefit Ghana who need a fantastic preparation that could result in them winning the AFCON for the first time since 1982.

This news is quite surprising because in recent weeks both South Africa FA and Ghana Football Association (GFA) have been at loggerheads after the Black Stars controversially eliminated Bafana Bafana from the  World Cup qualifiers.

Andre Ayew scored the only goal from a contentious penalty for a 1-0 victory in Cape Coast for Ghana to advance to the play off.

South Africans made several wild allegations after the game including match-fixing and lodged a formal complaint with FIFA for the game to be replayed.

While FIFA was investigating the matter, SAFA President Danny Jordaan on several occasions disrespected Ghana football and he drawing the bad bloodline after getting a reply from Kurt Okraku and the GFA as a whole.

FIFA dismissed the protest last Friday and stated SAFA can appeal if they want to.
