Stock market continues bearish run as GSE-CI dips further by 32.06 points

The benchmark GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) at the close of the week under review dropped further by 32.06 points to close at  2,810.01 points.

This translates into a year-to-date [YTD] return of 44.73% for the local bourse.

The dip in the benchmark GSE-CI was as a result of loses made by five (5) equities during the week.

The GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) also shed 15.58 points to close at 2,073.63 points translating into a YTD return of 16.32%. 

The stock market for some weeks now has experienced a continuous fall in its benchmark GSE-CI which measures the overall performance of equities traded on the Accra bourse.

Equities that led to the fall in the GSE-FSI and overall the GSE-CI were Scancom Plc [MTNGh], CAL Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Societe General, and Ecobank Ghana.

The only stock to emerge the sole gainer on the stock market over the week was SIC with a stock price appreciation of 14.29 percentage points.

Market capitalization of the local bourse on the back of the dip in the GSE-CI and GSE-FSI, declined by  GH¢335.55 million at the close of the week.

The local bourse at the end of the week closed trading at a market value of GHS 63.84 billion representing a growth rate of 17.49% in 2021.

Meanwhile, a total of 12.28 million shares valued at GHS 17.27 million was traded during the week.

This compares favourably to the 1.24 million shares valued at GHS 1.34 million traded the previous week.

Scancom Plc (MTNGH) for last week recorded most trades, accounting for 82.6% of the total value  traded. 

MTNGh together with GOIL,CAL, Societe General and Standard Chartered emerged the five top traded equities on the stock market for last week.
