Flights unaffected by meteo strike – GCAA
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has assured of secure and safe flights despite the ongoing strike by the Ghana Meteorological Agency.
According to the Authority, Ghana’s aviation industry ”is robust enough to deal with some of these exigencies.”
“The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority wish to assure the general public that contingency measures are in place to ensure safe and secure air travel, contrary to some media reports that flight operations are adversely affected due to the on-going strike by the Ghana Meteorological Agency.
“The Authority has put in place adequate measures to contain the situation for the entire duration of the strike, as well as ensure that flights coming into the country and those flying within the Accra Flight Information Region (FIR) receive the required weather information needed for smooth operation,” the aviation sector regulator said in a press release issued on Saturday, February 19, 2022.
Staff of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) embarked on an indefinite sit-down strike last week to press home their demand for better working conditions, as captured in a resolution presented to the Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation on January 5, 2022.
The Agency, which regularly provides weather forecast through the GCAA to airlines flying within the Accra Flight Information Region (Accra FIR), has halted this service due to the strike.
