Head of Corporate Communications at Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, has announced that the Group’s $2 billion Granulated Urea Fertilizer plant located in Lagos will commence operations in December 2020.

Mr Chiejina made the disclosure during an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) monitored by norvanreports on Wednesday, November 4.

“The Granulated Urea Fertilizer plant project will be ready for take-off before the end of December. The pre-testing has already been done and the delay in starting operations was due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he explained.

The Group’s fertilizer plant with a production capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum, is reported to be the largest in the world, but the operationalisation of the plant has however, suffered a few setbacks.

According to Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Aliko Dangote, the fertilizer plant would make Nigeria the only urea fertilizer exporting country in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The fertilizer plant together with the Group’s petrochemical plants he notes, could generate $2.5 billion annually.
