The filing of annual tax returns by registered businesses in the country, has been extended to December 31, 2020 by the Registrar-General’s Department (RGD).

A press release issued and signed by the Registrar-General, Jemima Oware and copied to norvanreports, indicated that the extension of the deadline is as a result of “the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and the inability of companies to hold their Annual General Meetings due to the pandemic.”

The notice of extension for the filing of annual returns for December this year, according to the statement, applies to companies whose financial year ended December 2019 and June 2020 respectively.

RGD via the statement also demanded that sole proprietorships and partnerships renew their business names to be in good standing with the Department by December 31 2020, adding that failure to do so will result in the removal of their business names by the Department.

“Penalty for defaulting on filing of Annual Returns remains Ghs 400 as initially communicated. The Penalty for late filing would however go up to Ghs 450 from Monday, January 4, 2021. Also the Renewal fee for business names is Ghs 25 for each year and does not attract any penalty,” an excerpt of the statement read.

Business registrants were further advised to desist from using middle men when transacting business with the Department and encouraged to visit the website, www.rgd.gov.gh for any enquiries and also to download any business forms.
