GSE: Absa sponsored ETF gains to hit GHS 145 in share price

New Gold (GLD), an Exchange Traded Funded (ETF) sponsored by Absa Capital, over the week gained in share price to reach GHS 145.00.

The ETF on Friday, began trading with an open price of GHS 144.50, by the close of trading activity, the ETF had gained 50 pesewas in share price ending the week with a share price of GHS 145.

The recorded gain in the ETF marks a year-to-date return of 33.52% on the stock.

An exchange traded fund (ETF) is a type of security that tracks an  index, sector, commodity, or other asset, but which can be  purchased or sold on a stock exchange the same as a regular stock.

New Gold ETF (GLD), an exchange traded fund offers the opportunity to invest in gold bullion. The company issues listed instruments (structured as debentures) backed by physical gold.

Each debenture is approximately  equivalent to 1/100 ounces of gold bullion, which is held with a secure depository on behalf of investors.

The debentures are listed on the Ghana (GSE) and six other African stock exchanges.  

Recording a decline in its share price was Societe Generale which lost 1 pesewas to end the week with a share price of GHS 1.18.

Year-to-date returns on the stock of Societe Generale for investors was negative 1.67%.

Market activity for the week gained 11.07 points to close at 2,507.31 points translating into a YTD return of -10.11%.

The GSE Financial Stock Index (GSE-FSI) however lost 1.23 points to close the week at 2,170.33 points translating into a YTD return of 0.86%.

Market capitalisation of the local bourse decreased by GHS 115.84 million to close the trading week at GHS 61.64 billion.

A total of 8.48 million shares valued at GHS 9.05 million traded during the week. Compared with the previous trading week, this week’s data shows a 71.47% decline in volume traded and 64.94% decline in trade turnover.

Scancom PLC. (MTNGH) recorded lion’s share of trades as it recorded the most volumes and accounted for 98.77% of the total value traded.
