The Government of Ghana (GoG) has placed restrictions on the signing and implementation of government contracts which have to do with the provision of goods and services worth more than Ghs 2 million.
Also, contracts which fall in the purview of the Ministry of Works and Housing and worth more than Ghs 5 million have also been embargoed.
The decision by government, according to the Deputy Minister for Information, Pius Enam Hadzide, follows the transitioning of the Akufo-Addo-led government into a second term which commences on January 7, 2021.
“Contracts involving goods and services worth more than Ghs 2 million would not be approved by government. Same applies to contracts in the area of works and housing that are worth more than Ghs 5 million, even the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for these contracts are not allowed,” he said.
“In addition, appointment of staff for government agencies cannot be made and big decisions to be made by heads of government agencies, departments and ministries will all have to wait till the end of the transition period,” he added.
The Deputy Information Minister made the disclosure in an interview with Accra-based UTV monitored by norvanreports.
President Akufo-Addo following his re-election to the presidency after emerging winner of the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, constituted a fifteen (15) member transition team.
The creation of the transition team by the president was is in line with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), enacted to govern the handing-over of government from one administration to another.
