Black Queens Suffer Last-Minute Heartbreak in Kim Björkegren’s Debut

The Black Queens of Ghana endured a painful 1-0 defeat against Morocco in head coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s first match in charge, with a stoppage-time goal sealing the loss for the team.

In a tightly contested friendly match, it was Moroccan striker Sakina Ouzraoui Diki who struck the decisive blow, finding the net in the dying moments of the game. Despite dominating large stretches of play and creating numerous scoring opportunities, the Black Queens were unable to convert their chances, showcasing a struggle with finishing that has plagued the team in recent outings.

The match statistics reveal a stark contrast in efficiency: while Ghana controlled possession and had several promising attacks, Morocco capitalized on their limited opportunities, showcasing their clinical edge in front of goal. This defeat marks the second consecutive loss for Ghana against Morocco, with the aggregate score now standing at 3-0 over their last two meetings.

The loss is a setback for the Black Queens as they gear up for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Ghana entered the match following a lackluster preparation period, having played only one game recently, a defeat. In contrast, Morocco came into the fixture in excellent form, boasting five wins and a draw in their last six matches.

Match Statistics:
– Goals Scored per Match: Morocco 2.7 – Ghana 0
– Goals Conceded per Match: Morocco 0.8 – Ghana 4
– Minutes per Goal Scored: Morocco 28 – Ghana 22.5
– Total Goals Scored: Morocco 21 – Ghana 4

Despite the disappointment, the Black Queens displayed promising moments, particularly in their build-up play and overall game control. They will have the opportunity to regroup quickly, facing Moroccan club champions AS FAR in just three days.
