Accra 2023: We aimed to promote peace and unity with African Games – Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee

The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the 13th African Games Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, has highlighted the success of the just-ended event, particularly emphasizing the significant turnout of fans across various venues.

He expressed satisfaction with the impressive numbers witnessed at venues such as the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, the Bukom Boxing Arena, the Accra Sports Stadium (which hosted the men’s football tournament finals), and the Legon Stadium (hosting the opening and closing ceremonies).

In an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare emphasized that a key objective of the LOC was to unite Ghanaians, particularly as the country approached an election year.

He also noted that the Games provided an excellent platform for fostering national unity, a goal that was successfully achieved.

“We were aiming at also promoting, peace, unity among Ghanaians, particularly in an election year like this. We need us to diversify, we need us to shift attention from NPP, NDC, politics everywhere all the time, to bring Ghanaians together to harmony.”

“You know, let’s unite as one body, come together, let’s promote peace in our country. So that was one of the, our expectations. And then we said, okay, Ghanaians have been starved for a very long time. Let’s give them something good.”
