Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a (ASWAJ) Holds 16th National Representative Congress in Accra
Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a (ASWAJ) Ghana will hold its 16th National Representative Congress (Stakeholders’ Meeting) from Thursday, 13th November to Sunday, 16th November 2025, at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Madina, Accra. The congress will begin at 9:00am each day, under the national theme: “Standing by the Quran and the Sunnah for Unity.”
This four-day national engagement will bring together senior leadership, Imams, administrators and representatives of ASWAJ from across all 16 regions of Ghana. Participants include members of the National Advisory Board, the National Representative Assembly, National Dawa’a Council members, National Dawa’a Committee members, the Regional Imams and their deputies and the National Imams, as well as all Committees and Sub-Committees of ASWAJ. Special invited guests from selected institutions and national bodies will also be present.
The primary purpose of this congress is to conduct an official constitutional review process for Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a Ghana. The National Representative Assembly will review and amend specific sections of the ASWAJ Constitution. Once the internal legislative process is completed, the revised constitutional provisions will be presented to the Congress House for promulgation and formal acceptance.
This congress will also serve as the official platform to hold national elections for the selection of the National Deputy Imams for Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a Ghana. This leadership election is an important step in strengthening internal governance, continuity, and succession planning within ASWAJ.
The 16th National Representative Congress therefore represents a critical milestone for the future of ASWAJ. It is expected to reinforce unity, institutional discipline, and organizational stability, while maintaining a strong commitment to the Quran and the Sunnah as the foundation for ASWAJ’s mission, identity, and leadership mandate in Ghana.
