Alcaraz and Sinner Set for Epic Showdown in ATP Finals
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will face off for the prestigious ATP Finals title after both players advanced decisively through their semifinals on Saturday. Alcaraz, the reigning year-end world No. 1, cruised past Felix Auger-Aliassime with a commanding 6-2, 6-4 victory, setting up a highly anticipated clash with his great rival Sinner.
The matchup between Alcaraz and Sinner — the two biggest stars in tennis — is a culmination of their fierce rivalry this season, which has seen the Spaniard hold a 10-5 edge in their overall encounters. Notably, Alcaraz has triumphed in four of their five meetings this year, including back-to-back victories in the finals of the US Open and Roland Garros, where he staged a dramatic comeback from two sets down.
Earlier in the day, Sinner, the defending champion, demonstrated his dominance by defeating Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-2. The Italian star has yet to drop a service game at this year’s finals and has won an impressive 30 consecutive matches on indoor hard courts.
“It’s going to be pretty difficult,” Alcaraz acknowledged after his match. “The level we could play is really high; every time we face each other, I think we raise our level to the top.”
The upcoming final will have added significance after Alcaraz edged Sinner for the top spot in the rankings at the close of 2025, and it will be contested in front of a supportive Italian crowd. “I expect at least three or four people cheering for me,” Alcaraz joked, acknowledging the home support for Sinner.
In his semifinal against Auger-Aliassime, Alcaraz displayed mastery on the court, breaking serve early in the first set and maintaining control throughout the match, despite not having to deliver his most spectacular tennis. The Canadian, known for his prowess on indoor courts, faced an uphill battle but could not match Alcaraz’s intensity.
Sinner, basking in the glow of his recent successes, is eager to prove himself against Alcaraz once more. “Every matchup with Alcaraz is different,” he reflected, highlighting the unpredictability of their rivalry. “Another final, it’s been an amazing year for me. I’m looking forward to seeing where my level really is.”
This meeting marks a significant moment, as Sinner seeks to defend his title and further solidify his place in tennis history. He remains undefeated in Turin since last year’s final against Novak Djokovic and aims to extend his winning streak.
