Armed Operatives Raid Former BoG Governor Addison’s Residence
A group of heavily armed men, suspected to be operatives from the National Security Secretariat, reportedly stormed the private residence of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, in the early hours of Wednesday, March 19.
According to sources, the raid occurred around 5 a.m. at his Roman Ridge residence while he was at home. The operatives, numbering about 15 and arriving in three separate vehicles, were said to be heavily armed with rifles.
Upon entry, the operatives disabled the residence’s CCTV system and demanded that Dr. Addison lead them to alleged hidden vaults within the house. The former governor, however, firmly denied the existence of any such vaults or cash holdings on his property.
Despite his response, the operatives conducted a thorough search of the premises, reportedly leaving the house in disarray. When their efforts proved futile, they allegedly called in National Security drivers to remove four of Dr. Addison’s vehicles, leaving only two behind. The CCTV monitor and control unit were also confiscated before the operatives departed.
Later that evening, sources revealed that the family was contacted and instructed to retrieve the seized vehicles, which had been parked opposite Jokers Club in Labadi.
Pattern of Raids on Former Officials
The incident comes just a month after a similar raid on the residence of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta. On February 11, 2025, a group of 12 operatives, including nine military personnel and plainclothes officers, allegedly entered Mr. Ofori-Atta’s home without a warrant while he was out of the country for medical treatment.
Mr. Ofori-Atta later stated that the raid caused significant distress to his household staff and tarnished his reputation.
Dr. Addison and his family are reportedly shaken by the latest incident, raising concerns about the motives behind these operations and their implications for former government officials.
