Asamoah Gyan says he planned hitting Suarez during a Premier League match
Ghana’s all time top scorer Asamoah Gyan, has revealed he almost hit Luis Suarez during a Premier League match after the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The Black Stars were on the verge of becoming Africa’s first ever nation to reach the semis of a World Cup but were denied via a Luis Suarez handball incident in the dying minutes of extra time in the quarter-finals which stopped a goal-bound header from Dominic Adiyiah.
For what will be one of Ghana’s biggest heartbreak in Sports, the Black Stars were awarded a penalty, but Asamoah Gyan’s saw his effort crash into the crossbar, which resulted in Suarez going gay on the touchline with the game going into a shootout.
Uruguay won the penalty shoot-out to progress to the semifinals with Luis Suarez celebrated for his offensively intrusive act.

“I remember the game between Sunderland and Liverpool. We were playing at home on that day and all players were shaking hands. I wanted to hit him [Suarez] because people had said things that stuck in my mind.
“I was naïve at that time but when I thought about it later, I realized that I had to let it go because I would have done the same thing if I was in his position,” Gyan said on Peace FM.
Uruguay after progressing lost to eventual runner ups Netherlands in the semifinals game with their captain Diego Forlan who got the equalizer in the Ghana game being awarded the best player of the tournament.
