Asante Gold reroutes Bibiani-Goaso highway to facilitate enhanced mining operations
Asante Gold Corporation has announced the strategic rerouting of the Bibiani-Goaso Highway, a crucial development that facilitates the expansion of its Bibiani Gold Mine.
The completion of two detour roads now paves the way for enhanced operations in both open pit and underground mining, marking a pivotal step in Asante’s ambitious plan to elevate annual gold production to over 250,000 ounces.
The company anticipates a cumulative yield of 1.2 million ounces over the next five years, as detailed in the 2024 Bibiani Technical Report, with lower all-in sustaining costs (AISC).
The highway rerouting provides immediate access to an estimated 170,000 ounces of contained gold from the Main Pit over the next 12 months. This access is integral to Asante’s short-term production strategy, which includes processing 250,000 ounces annually starting from the 2026 fiscal year.
The presence of oxide mineralization in the southern portion of the Main Pit is expected to enhance gold recovery rates during the interim period while the Sulphide Recovery Plant is being installed. Monthly production is projected to surpass 20,000 ounces within eight months, reinforcing the company’s near-term output goals.
The successful planning, design, and construction of the detour roads were achieved through extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including Ghana’s Ministry of Roads and Transport, the Ghana Highway Authority, the Department of Feeder Roads, the Regional Ministry, traditional authorities, local community committees, the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly, transport organizations, and community members. This collaboration underscores the project’s strategic importance and community engagement.
Asante’s rerouting initiative not only addresses logistical challenges but also significantly supports its long-term objective of extending the mine’s life well into the next decade. The new detour roads ensure safe and efficient access for local farms, plantations, and communities that previously depended on the Bibiani-Goaso Highway, thereby enhancing local infrastructure and community connectivity.
The rerouting milestone is a testament to Asante’s commitment to sustainable development and operational efficiency. The company extends its gratitude to all stakeholders involved and looks forward to fostering a mutually beneficial relationship as it continues to advance the Bibiani Gold Mine. This development is poised to secure the long-term viability and growth of the Bibiani project, reinforcing Asante’s position in the gold mining sector.
