Asante Kotoko Appoints Abdul Karim Zito as Interim Head Coach Amid Technical Overhaul
Asante Kotoko SC has announced the appointment of Abdul Karim Zito as Interim Head Coach and Technical Director, marking a significant shift in the club’s technical structure. The decision comes as the Porcupine Warriors aim to regain stability and competitiveness in the ongoing season.
Zito, a former player and coach at the club, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He recently led Dreams FC to an impressive semi-final run in the CAF Confederation Cup and was pivotal in guiding Ghana’s U-20 team to victory in the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. His track record positions him as a capable leader during this transitional period for the club.
Joining Zito in the revamped coaching staff is Prince Yaw Owusu, who takes on the role of Assistant Coach. With over 20 years of coaching experience in Ghana, Sudan, and the United States, Owusu has previously worked with teams such as Medeama SC and Inter Allies, as well as the Ghana U-20 and U-17 national teams.
He is recognized for developing young talents who have progressed to top European clubs, including AC Milan and Fiorentina.
Additionally, former Technical Director Malik Jabir has been appointed as Technical Advisor, a role aimed at providing high-level strategic guidance to bolster the club’s long-term vision.
Asante Kotoko’s management emphasized that these appointments are part of a renewed commitment to building a robust technical framework, ensuring consistent success on the pitch. The club is seeking to stabilize its operations following recent challenges, including the exit of former coach Prosper Ogum after a difficult second stint.
