Asante Kotoko Beats Hearts of Oak to Win 2025 President’s Cup
Asante Kotoko clinched the 2025 President’s Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak, thanks to a decisive late goal from striker Kwame Opoku. The match, held at the Accra Sports Stadium, was filled with drama and showcased the fierce rivalry between the two clubs.
Hearts of Oak drew first blood when forward Hamza Issah capitalized on a goalkeeping error from Kotoko’s Mohammed Camara, scoring the opening goal. This marked a significant moment for Issah, as it was his first goal under new coach Didi Dramani, following a successful stint under former coach Aboubakar Ouattara.
However, Kotoko responded quickly after the break. Just seven minutes into the second half, Peter Amidu leveled the score, dramatically shifting the momentum in favor of the Porcupine Warriors. Two minutes later, Kwame Opoku netted the winner, completing the comeback for Kotoko.
Despite late attempts by Hearts of Oak to equalize, including a penalty opportunity for Emmanuel Amankwah, Kotoko held firm to secure the victory. Amankwah’s penalty shot was saved by Camara, ensuring that Kotoko extended their unbeaten streak against Hearts to five matches.
With this triumph, Kotoko not only claimed the President’s Cup but also added to their recent successes, which include an FA Cup victory and a strong finish in the Ghana Premier League.
