Asante Kotoko Head Coach Karim Zito Sees GHALCA Top 4 as Key Preparation For African Campaign
Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito is eager for his team to showcase their skills in the upcoming 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament. Zito views this competition as an essential opportunity to prepare his squad for the challenges ahead in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Kotoko will kick off their GHALCA Top 4 journey against Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani GoldStars on Wednesday at 3 PM at the University of Ghana Stadium. This match marks a significant moment for both teams, as they gear up for their respective campaigns in continental competitions—GoldStars representing Ghana in the CAF Champions League.
“The GHALCA Top 4 will help me a lot; it will aid those of us who have qualified for Africa,” Zito stated. “In Ghana, finding matches like this is very difficult. You rarely see Kotoko playing Hearts or Medeama in friendly matches. This tournament serves as a valuable preparation phase, allowing me to assess how I want my boys to play.”
Zito emphasized the importance of these high-profile games for his team’s readiness as they prepare to face Nigeria’s Kwara United in the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. The first leg will be hosted in Ghana between September 19 and 21, with the return fixture scheduled for Nigeria from September 26 to 28. Should Kotoko advance, they will meet Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the second preliminary round in October.
