Atletico Madrid and Barcelona Battle To Epic Eight-Goal Thriller in Copa del Rey Semifinal
Atletico Madrid and Barcelona played out a sensational 4-4 draw at the Estadio Metropolitano on Tuesday night. The match featured a rollercoaster of emotions as Atletico initially surged ahead, only to concede a two-goal lead before staging a spirited comeback.
Atletico Madrid kicked off the match in explosive fashion, scoring twice within the first six minutes. Julian Alvarez opened the scoring, tapping in at the back post after Antoine Griezmann’s cross was flicked on. Just moments later, Griezmann himself doubled the lead, finishing a stunning pass from Alvarez despite pressure from Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde.
However, Barcelona responded with impressive determination, dominating the rest of the first half. Pedri Gonzalez ignited the Catalan comeback, scoring after a setup from Jules Kounde. Pau Cubarsi then leveled the match with a header from a corner, sending the teams into halftime at 2-2.
The second half saw Barcelona take control, with substitute Robert Lewandowski capitalizing on a brilliant run by teenage winger Lamine Yamal, tapping in to give Barca a 3-2 lead. Atletico, however, was far from finished. In the 84th minute, Marcos Llorente struck from the edge of the box to equalize, breathing new life into the match.
As the game approached its climax, Alexander Sorloth found the net in stoppage time, securing a dramatic late equalizer for Atletico and leaving the aggregate score at 4-4.
Real Madrid will face Real Sociedad on Wednesday in the other semifinal first leg.
