Barcelona Dominates El Clasico with 4-0 Victory Over Real Madrid
In-form centre-forward Robert Lewandowski netted twice and teenage superstar Lamine Yamal was also on the scoresheet as Barcelona recorded a statement 4-0 win over Real Madrid in El Clasico on Saturday night.
Kylian Mbappe had a goal disallowed in the first half for an offside, and Lewandowski then scored twice in the early stages of the second period to take his tally for the campaign to 17 goals in 14 appearances. Yamal added a late third for the visitors, becoming the youngest player to score in El Clasico at just 17 years and 106 days old.
Raphinha capped off the extraordinary evening by lifting the ball over onrushing goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, further sealing the victory.
With this win, Barcelona has opened up a six-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid atop the La Liga table and handed their rivals their first league defeat since September 2023, ending a long unbeaten run.
The match began with Barcelona threatening in the 13th minute, but Yamal’s effort was saved by Real Madrid goalkeeper Lunin. Vinicius Junior emerged as Madrid’s biggest threat, but his attempt to break the deadlock in the 23rd minute went wide.
Mbappe thought he had scored in the 30th minute, but after a VAR review, the goal was disallowed due to offside. Real Madrid struggled with their positioning, being caught offside on eight occasions in the first half, as Barcelona’s high defensive line proved effective.
The tide turned early in the second half when Lewandowski scored two quick goals, first finishing coolly after a pass from Marc Casado, then heading in a cross from Alejandro Balde to make it 2-0.
Lewandowski nearly added to his tally when he hit the post in the 66th minute, but it was Yamal who extended the lead to 3-0 in the 77th minute, smashing the ball past Lunin after receiving a pass from Raphinha.
Raphinha then finished the scoring in the 84th minute, securing a remarkable 4-0 victory for Barcelona in the Spanish capital.
