Bawumia underscores relevance of private sector in national economic growth at Ghana CEO Awards

In a recent address at the prestigious Second Edition of the Ghana CEO Awards, the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, underscored the pivotal role of the private sector in advancing sustainable development and realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Drawing attention to compelling statistics, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that the private sector commands a commanding presence on the global economic stage, contributing 60% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) while generating employment opportunities for 90% of the global workforce. Moreover, it facilitates 80% of capital flows across borders.

Emphasizing the significance of Ghana’s private sector, the Vice President accentuated its crucial role in propelling the nation’s economic growth trajectory. He commended businesses for their remarkable contributions to Ghana’s pursuit of the 17 SDGs through sustainable practices, which have in turn enhanced the nation’s appeal as an investment destination.

“Business leadership plays a pivotal role in achieving the SDGs given the private sector’s role in fostering innovation, job creation, and driving economic growth,” remarked the Vice President, affirming the instrumental influence of corporate leaders.

The Ghana CEO Awards, a distinguished platform designed to empower and celebrate CEOs who make positive impacts within various sectors of the economy, serves as a testament to the recognition of private sector leaders.
