betPawa GPL: Accra Lions share spoils with Samartex; Gold Stars edge RTU

There was a lot of excitement in the air as the 2022/23 betPawa Premier League resumed on Monday, December 19, following the conclusion of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar which led to the breaking of major leagues across the world.

Fans across the length and breadth of the country had the opportunity to witness two games as Samartex 1996 faced off with Accra Lions while Bibiani Gold Stars hosted Real Tamale United.

Lions, who occupied the second spot prior to the break, conceded in the 11th minute of the game against Samartex with Giyasu Ibrahim breaking the deadlock. The home side rallied back and found the equaliser just before the halftime break through Hagan Frimpong.

Despite the second half fight, there was no goal to separate the two teams as they shared the points which meant the home side missed the opportunity of going on top of the league.

At Dun’s Park, Ibrahim Laar’s lone goal saw Bibiani GoldStars take home all three points against Real Tamale United, who now have two losses in their last five games. The win also sees Michael Osei’s side climb to the top of the league table, having played a game more.

They are levelled on points with Aduana Stars who play Great Olympics on Tueday and Accra Lions, who also have 16 points while Asante Kotoko occupy the 4th position with 14 points.
