Bibiani Gold Stars Set to Begin GPL Title Defence Against Bechem United as Fixtures for 2025/26 Season Are Released
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially released the fixtures for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season, with defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars set to kick off their title defense at home against Bechem United.
Having clinched the league title last season, Bibiani Gold Stars will look to build on their success after overcoming strong contenders such as Nations FC, Asante Kotoko, and Heart of Lions. Their opening match at home promises to be a thrilling encounter as they aim to start the season on a high note.
Accra Hearts of Oak, who are eager to bounce back from a mixed performance in the 2024/25 season, will begin their campaign against newly promoted Hohoe United at their home ground. This matchup is anticipated to be a test for Hearts as they seek to regain their status as one of the league’s top teams.
Arch-rivals Asante Kotoko will face a challenging away match against Berekum Chelsea in their opening fixture. The match is expected to draw significant attention, given the historical rivalry between the two clubs.
Match Day 1 also features other intriguing encounters: former champions Medeama SC will visit Young Apostles, while FC Samartex will take on Vision FC away from home. Heart of Lions, last season’s runners-up, will host Dreams FC, and Karela United will entertain Aduana FC in what promises to be an exciting start to the season.
The eagerly awaited Super Clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko is scheduled for Match Day 5 at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the reverse fixture set for Match Day 22 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. These matches are crucial as both teams vie for superiority in Ghanaian football.
Additionally, the fixtures include a return of the Volta derby, with Hohoe United hosting Kpando Heart of Lions on Match Day 17, and a rematch in Kpando on the final day of the season, Match Day 34.
The season kicks off on the weekend of September 12, 2025, and will wrap up by May 23/24, 2026. This timeline aligns with the upcoming FIFA World Cup scheduled for June 11 to July 19, 2026, ensuring that all domestic competitions conclude before the global event.
With preparations underway, the GFA is committed to maintaining the league’s traditional weekend match schedule, with midweek fixtures reserved for outstanding games, as seen in the previous season.
