Black Queens’ Coach Nora Häuptle Left for Zambia Amidst Remuneration Conflicts – GFA Spokesperson

Black Queens’ Coach Nora Häuptle Left for Zambia Amidst Remuneration Conflicts – GFA Spokesperson

In a surprising turn of events, Nora Häuptle has officially parted ways with Ghana’s Black Queens, and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has clarified the circumstances surrounding her exit.

According to GFA spokesperson Henry Asante Twum, the Swiss manager’s departure was primarily due to a disagreement over remuneration, not the lack of friendly matches as previously speculated.

Häuptle, who took the helm of the Black Queens in 2023, has signed a three-year deal with the Zambian national team following the expiration of her contract with Ghana. Her time with the Black Queens was marked by significant achievements, notably qualifying the team for the upcoming Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after they missed the previous two editions.

In a LinkedIn post prior to her departure, Häuptle expressed her frustration over the limited number of matches the Black Queens had played compared to other national teams, especially with the WAFCON on the horizon. She specifically noted the failure to secure friendly matches in November, sparking speculation about her reasons for leaving.

However, Twum emphasized that the issue was not as simple as a lack of friendlies. “We only failed to play a friendly match in November. How is that enough reason for the coach not to have her contract extended?” he questioned. He reiterated that the crux of the matter was purely about financial terms.

The GFA had arranged several friendly matches during Häuptle’s tenure, including games against Benin, Senegal, and Japan. Despite these efforts, the team faced challenges, including a heavy 4-0 defeat to Japan. Twum explained that plans for additional friendlies against Senegal, Tunisia, and France in November fell through due to logistical issues and player fatigue following the Japan match.

As the GFA navigates this transition, they have assured fans and stakeholders that an announcement regarding Häuptle’s successor will be made in due course. The departure of the Swiss manager marks a pivotal moment for the Black Queens as they prepare for a crucial tournament ahead, with hopes high for a successful campaign in the upcoming WAFCON.
