Black Queens Name 24-Woman Squad for WAFCON as Four Home-Based Players Included
Ghana Women’s National Team head coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has officially named a 24-woman squad for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament, set to take place in Morocco. The announcement was made on June 16 and confirmed by the Ghana Football Association.
Among the selected players, only four are home-based: Kerrie McCarthy, Afi Amenyeku, Comfort Yeboah, and Nancy Amoh. This inclusion highlights the coach’s recognition of local talent as part of the team’s preparation.
The squad also features international debutants who have made their mark under Bjorkegren, including Josephine Bonsu, Louisa Aniwaa, Chantelle Hlorkah, and Abigail Kofi Kim, all of whom have retained their positions in the squad.
The Black Queens are set to hold a training camp outside of Ghana as part of their preparations for the tournament. They have been drawn into a challenging group alongside defending champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania, setting the stage for intense competition.
The 2025 WAFCON kicks off on July 5, with the final scheduled for July 26.
