Black Queens Set for Warm-Up Matches Against Malawi, Botswana, and Nigeria Ahead of WAFCON 2024

The Black Queens, Ghana’s national women’s football team, are preparing for the upcoming Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a series of three international friendly matches. The team will face Malawi, Botswana, and arch-rivals Nigeria as part of their preparation strategy.

The warm-up fixtures are designed to help the Queens acclimate, enhance team cohesion, and refine their game strategies ahead of the continental tournament. They will kick off their preparation by hosting Malawi at the Ziaida Complex in Benslimane on June 21. Four days later, they will take on Botswana at the same venue.

The final friendly will be a high-stakes encounter against Nigeria’s Super Falcons on June 29 at the Lanouria Complex, a match that promises to be a true test of skill and determination.

Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren emphasized the importance of these matches, stating, “We want to test ourselves against different playing styles and team dynamics. Malawi and Botswana provide technical and disciplined opposition, while Nigeria offers the challenge of a traditional powerhouse.”

The Black Queens are set to begin their WAFCON campaign on July 7, where they will face defending champions South Africa in their opening match in Group C.
