Black Satellites to Face Benin, Niger and Togo in 2025 AFCON Qualifiers

Ghana’s U-20 team, the Black Satellites, have been drawn against Benin, Niger, and Togo in the upcoming 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The draw, held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in Ivory Coast, sets the stage for Ghana to battle for a return to the U-20 AFCON after missing the last edition.

The WAFU B qualifiers will take place in Togo from October 17 to 31, 2024, with the Black Satellites eager to secure their spot in the 2025 AFCON. The competition also serves as a qualifier for the 2025 FIFA U-20 Men’s World Cup.

The top-performing teams in the WAFU B tournament will advance to the U-20 AFCON, and from there, to the U-20 World Cup, adding another layer of importance to the qualifiers.

The Black Satellites are riding high on confidence after clinching the gold medal in the men’s football competition at the 2023 African Games, held in Ghana earlier this year.

Led by head coach Desmond Ofei, the team hopes to replicate this success on the continental stage.

The qualifiers present a challenging path for the four-time U-20 AFCON champions.

Group B includes Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso, creating a competitive environment in West Africa as the young Ghanaian talents seek to re-establish their dominance at this level.

Ghana will be hoping to secure a strong start in their group, with matches slated for next month.
