Black Stars Begin 2026 World Cup Qualifying Campaign with Training in Accra; Set to Depart for Chad Today
The Black Stars of Ghana held their first training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, gearing up for two crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali. The team is set to depart for N’Djamena today, September 2, ahead of their match against Chad on Thursday.
During the Monday training, key players including Antoine Semenyo, Elisha Owusu, Ibrahim Osman, Kamal Deen Sulemana, and Jordan Ayew showcased their skills and commitment. With the rest of the squad expected to join later in the evening, winger Joseph Paintsil is anticipated to arrive on Tuesday morning.
Ghana currently leads Group I with 15 points from six matches, having won five and lost one. A victory against Chad is essential for the Black Stars to maintain their position at the top of the group, solidifying their path toward a fifth World Cup appearance.
Coach Otto Addo expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness, stating, “We need to approach these matches with the right mindset. Every point is crucial as we aim for the World Cup.”
Following the match against Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on September 4, the Black Stars will return home to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8. The team will also prepare for their final qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros in October.
