  • BoG Gold Coin Hits GH₵55,293 for One-Ounce Denomination

The Bank of Ghana has priced its one-ounce Ghana Gold Coin at GH₵55,293.25 for Monday, May 11, 2026, as elevated global bullion prices continue to shape the value of the central bank’s gold-backed investment instrument.

According to the latest Ghana Gold Coin pricing notice issued by the Bank, the 0.50-ounce coin has been quoted at GH₵27,998.64, while the 0.25-ounce coin is priced at GH₵14,374.24.

The latest quotation is based on the previous day’s London Bullion Market Association PM gold price of US$4,741.40 and a Bloomberg REGN USD/GHS exchange rate of 11.2800, underscoring the combined impact of international gold prices and cedi-dollar movements on the local pricing of the coin.

The Ghana Gold Coin, introduced by the Bank of Ghana as part of efforts to broaden domestic investment options and provide an alternative store of value, has become an increasingly watched instrument for investors seeking exposure to gold without directly holding foreign currency assets.

Its pricing is particularly important in a market where savers continue to monitor inflation, exchange-rate movements and returns on traditional investment instruments such as Treasury bills, fixed deposits and government securities.

The one-ounce coin remains the highest-priced denomination, reflecting its full exposure to the underlying gold value. The half-ounce and quarter-ounce options provide lower entry points for investors seeking smaller allocations to gold.

The latest pricing also highlights the strong link between Ghana’s domestic gold investment market and global bullion conditions. With gold trading at elevated levels internationally, local gold-backed instruments are likely to remain sensitive to shifts in global safe-haven demand, United States interest-rate expectations, inflation sentiment and currency market movements.

For local investors, the Bank of Ghana’s daily quotation provides a transparent pricing benchmark for the coin, allowing buyers and sellers to assess the value of their holdings in cedi terms.

The central bank’s use of both the international gold benchmark and the prevailing cedi-dollar reference rate means movements in either variable can affect the final local price. A stronger global gold price can push coin values higher, while depreciation of the cedi against the dollar may also raise the local currency price of the coin.

Conversely, a decline in bullion prices or appreciation of the cedi could lower the quoted price.

The Bank of Ghana’s latest quotation therefore places the gold coin firmly within Ghana’s broader financial market conversation, especially at a time when investors are weighing the outlook for inflation, currency stability and portfolio diversification.

With the one-ounce coin now priced above GH₵55,000, the instrument remains positioned largely for investors with medium- to high-value savings capacity, while the half-ounce and quarter-ounce denominations offer more accessible alternatives for those seeking gradual exposure to gold.

The Ghana Gold Coin is expected to continue attracting attention from investors looking for a hedge against inflation and exchange-rate risk, particularly as gold maintains its appeal as a store of value in periods of global and domestic financial uncertainty.
