BoG Governor arrogant; respects his “kingmakers” more than Ghanaians – Prof Lord Mensah

Senior Lecturer at the Department of Finance of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), Professor Lord Mensah, has described Dr Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Central Bank as arrogant.

According to Prof Mensah, the Governor “respects” the Government more than he does Ghanaians.

“The Governor places too much weight on his kingmakers than citizens forgetting that the citizens who are the taxpayers are the ones that take care of him.

“The Governor was extremely arrogant in his response and is unable to identify with the people (Ghanaians) he is serving,” posited Prof Mensah sharing his thoughts on Dr Addison’s remarks on the demonstration undertaken by the Minority in Parliament last week demanding for his resignation.

Speaking on the NorvanReports’ X Space discussion on Sunday, Prof Mensah averred the Governor’s disrespect for Ghanaians and some of the decisions he has made as Governor, have partly contributed to the current economic challenges, highlighting specifically the high level of inflation and intestine rates in the country.

“It is his disrespect for citizens and his decisions that have led to high inflation and interest rates. Not using the monetary policy corridors and rather using the fiscal corridors is what has fed into high inflation.

“The BoG claims it printed money to rescue the economy, but the question is, has the economy been rescued?” he quipped.

According to Prof Mensah, the demonstration by the Minority and citizens was the best approach to making their grievances heard and calling for the head of the Governor as other alternatives such as the call for the dismissal of the Governor by the appointing authority (President) was not going to work.

In his view, the Governor should render an apology to Ghanaians for his remarks describing protesters as “hooligans”.

“The Governor must accept that he has created a mess with some of the decisions he has made and tell Ghanaians how he is going to get us out of the mess.

“He must also work hard towards restoring in the BoG by Ghanaians, otherwise the entire financial system will be without trust,” he added.
