BoG Postpones National Launch of Cedi@60 Anniversary Following Helicopter Tragedy
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has indefinitely postponed the national launch of the Cedi@60 anniversary celebrations, originally slated for Friday, August 8, in honour of the eight persons who lost their lives in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Central Bank described the decision as a mark of respect to the deceased, who include five senior government officials and three Ghana Armed Forces personnel.
“We regret to announce that the launch has been postponed,” the BoG stated, adding that the Bank “extends its deepest condolences to His Excellency the President of the Republic, the Government and People of Ghana and the families of the departed.”
The commemorative event was scheduled to take place at the Accra International Conference Centre and was expected to usher in a year-long programme of activities marking six decades of Ghana’s national currency, the cedi.
“The Bank appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all its stakeholders and the general public during this period of national mourning,” the statement added.
