Boxing: Deontay Wilder talks comeback to the sport

Boxing: Deontay Wilder talks comeback to the sport

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber” Wilder says he’s “definitely” returning to the ring to resume his career.

The knockout artist Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) has been inactive since losing his trilogy fight against WBC belt holder Tyson Fury on October 9th last year.

Boxing fans have been trying to encourage the hard-hitting 6’7″ Wilder get back in action, but it appears he’s been enjoying the fruits of his labor.

With a net worth of $30 million, Wilder is enjoying his money doing things that he never had the opportunity to do when he was working hard on the grindstone.

If the 36-year-old Wilder is going to come back, he needs to do it soon because he’s not getting any younger.

For fighters his age to be out of the ring for an extended period, it tends to end badly for them when they do return after a long absence.

The good news is if Wilder does get back in action soon, he can potentially fight the winner of the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua rematch.

It would be best for Deontay to stay away from fighting Fury again because he seems to have his number after three fights.

However, Fury is retired now and seems to have lost his ambition after making millions fighting Wilder and Dillian Whyte.

“I’m definitely considering coming back,” Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder said to Premier Boxing Champions.

“This is something that we’re trying to figure out and get things situated. I feel [it could be] a re-boost for my career.

“It’s not about the financial things, I never have to return to boxing ever again in my life. I’ve set my life up. I’ve been doing so many great things outside of the boxing ring.

“I’ve just been enjoying what I’ve been doing. To have my free time to enjoy my family, enjoy my business ventures, and investments, and get into other hobbies and passions that I already have and love to do that I didn’t have time to do it.

“At this point in time, I’m jumping into other passions that I wanted to do in my life and I’m enjoying my life so much. It’s just amazing. I take pride in being a king and doing king things.

“When you have a strong, outspoken heavyweight like myself, boxing is beautiful. When you have an exciting heavyweight, boxing thrives. This is what people are witnessing right now.

“When you don’t have that heavyweight no more, things start to die down. I’ve had people reach out to me and say, ‘The divisions are not the same. We need our champ back. Boxing is boring without him,’” said Wilder.

Potential comeback opponents for Wilder are Andy Ruiz Jr, Michael Hunter, Dillian Whyte, Otto Wallin, Demsey Mckean, Agit Kabayel, Zhilei Zhang, Hughie Fury and Tony Yoka.
