Joint Transition Team to be Inaugurated Tomorrow, President-elect Mahama Says

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that a Joint Transitional Team, comprising officials from both the outgoing government and his incoming administration, will be inaugurated tomorrow, December 11, 2024, to facilitate a seamless transfer of power.

The announcement was made during his acceptance speech as President-elect on Monday, December 9, where Mr. Mahama underscored his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition.

“President Akufo-Addo and I have agreed on an early inauguration of the Joint Transitional Team as early as Wednesday, the 11th of December,” he stated. “I conveyed my sincerest regards to the President and expressed my readiness for us to work together to ensure a smooth transition in the best interest of the Ghanaian people.”

Reflecting on Governance Challenges

In his speech, Mr. Mahama reflected on what he described as some of the “darkest periods” of Ghana’s governance over the past eight years.

He lamented the crises that have left “a scar on the national psyche,” but also stressed the importance of learning from these challenges.

“This mandate serves as a constant reminder of what awaits us if we fail to meet the aspirations of our people and govern with arrogance,” he cautioned. “There is much to do to strengthen our country and reset it. It will start with a reset of the relationship between citizens and elected officials.”

Governance Reforms and a Path Forward

Mr. Mahama outlined his vision for the next four years, pledging to initiate key governance reforms and take decisive measures to “reset our nation and bring it back on track as the Black Star of Africa.”

He criticized the outgoing administration for what he termed as plunging the nation into an “abyss” but expressed optimism about rebuilding trust in Ghana’s governance system.

“We intend to work together to restore the shattered confidence in our politics and governance system,” he declared. “This election and its outcome represent an opportunity for a new beginning—a chance to write a new chapter of our collective story.”

A Vision of Unity and Renewal

Mr. Mahama called on Ghanaians to unite in rebuilding the country and expressed confidence in the nation’s ability to overcome its challenges. “We are determined to work together with you to build the Ghana we want, and I am certain that we shall win the battle,” he affirmed.

The early inauguration of the transitional team is expected to facilitate effective collaboration between the outgoing and incoming administrations, ensuring a smooth power transition and paving the way for the implementation of Mahama’s ambitious reform agenda.
