Alcaraz Outclass Djokovic to Reach Men’s Final; Dabrowski and Gabriella Capture Women’s Double Title

The US Open showcased extraordinary talent and resilience on Friday as Carlos Alcaraz ousted Novak Djokovic to reach the final, and Gabriela Dabrowski, alongside Erin Routliffe, captured the women’s doubles title in a remarkable comeback story.

Alcaraz Ousts Djokovic to Reach US Open Final

Spanish second seed Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 to secure his place in the US Open final. This victory not only ended Djokovic’s bid for a record 25th Grand Slam singles title but also marked Alcaraz’s second appearance in the US Open final.

Alcaraz’s performance was both efficient and commanding, as he pressured Djokovic from the very first game, breaking him early to take the first set. The Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd rallied behind Djokovic, who initially took a 3-0 lead in the second set, but Alcaraz quickly turned the tide, breaking back and eventually clinching the set in a tiebreak.

With Djokovic visibly weary, Alcaraz seized control in the third set, breaking Djokovic’s serve again and closing out the match in just over two hours. “I played great tennis and I am happy to be at my second final at the US Open,” Alcaraz expressed. He now awaits the winner of the semifinal between Jannik Sinner and Felix Auger-Aliassime, which promises to be another thrilling encounter.

In the women’s doubles final, Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe triumphed over top seeds Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova, winning 6-4, 6-4. This victory marked Dabrowski’s second US Open doubles title and came after a tumultuous year following her breast cancer diagnosis.

Dabrowski’s journey back to the top has been nothing short of remarkable. After undergoing surgeries and a three-month break from tennis, she returned to compete, even winning an Olympic bronze medal in mixed doubles while receiving treatment. She and Routliffe, who also faced health challenges, managed to secure the season-ending WTA Tour Finals title in Riyadh.

The duo’s triumph at the US Open, which awarded them a split of $1 million in prize money, was a testament to their resilience and teamwork. “Yeah, wild ride. Cancer, broken ribs for both of us. It was crazy, honestly,” Dabrowski reflected. “I’m really proud of us. It was not easy.”
