“Build on This and You’ll Be Champions” – GFA President Kurt Okraku Praises Black Queens After Semi Final Loss to Morocco

Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has expressed pride in the Black Queens’ performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and believes the team is poised to become champions soon.

The Black Queens made headlines by defeating Algeria 4-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout, marking their first semi-final appearance since 2016. Despite their valiant efforts, the team faced a setback in the semi-finals against Morocco, losing another penalty shootout 4-2 after a hard-fought match.

Stella Nyamekye opened the scoring for Ghana, giving the team an early lead, but Morocco’s Sakina Ouzraoui equalized, setting the stage for a tense finish. Unfortunately, Ghana’s Comfort Yeboah and Evelyn Badu both missed their penalties, sealing the team’s fate as they fell to the host nation.

Looking ahead, the Black Queens are set to compete in the third-place playoff against defending champions South Africa on July 25, while the final will feature Nigeria taking on Morocco a day later.

Okraku’s confidence in the team is unwavering. He urged the players to build on their achievements and continue striving for greatness. With their recent performance, the Black Queens have shown they have the potential to reclaim their status as African champions.
