Bukom Banku retires from boxing, passes torch to children
Braimah Isaac Kamoko, widely known as Bukom Banku, has announced his retirement from boxing, citing the desire to pass the torch to his children.
The Ghanaian boxer clinched a bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the 1999 African Games in South Africa, laying the foundation for his professional career. He dominated the ring, racking up an impressive record of 29 wins in 30 fights. His only loss came against Bastie Samir in October 2017.
In an interview with Okay FM, Bukom Banku shared his decision, saying, “I’ve grown, and at the same time, my eye is also paining me, so I don’t want to fight again. Three of my children are boxers, so I’ve left everything for them. I’ve packed my gloves and my shoes, all for them, Abu Kamoko and Mustafa Kamoko. I’ve laid the path so they can continue.”
Expressing his future plans, Bukom Banku revealed that he is venturing into comedy and hosting concerts. “I have stopped boxing, and I’m starting comedy and some shows I do by myself,” he added.
Bukom Banku fought the majority of his professional bouts in Africa, primarily in Ghana, with a notable victory in the United Kingdom against Hungarian Ferenc Albert after three rounds in 2019.
