IEAG’s Samson Awingobit Promotes Ghana’s Rice Industry at 2025 World Rice Conference in Cambodia
The Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG), Samson Asaki Awingobit, is representing Ghana at the 2025 World Rice Conference, currently underway in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The three-day summit, which began on 7 November and ends on 9 November 2025, has attracted government officials, rice traders, importers, exporters, and industry experts from across the globe. This year’s conference is themed “Harvesting the Future: Uniting Science, Trade and Innovation,” and aims to strengthen collaboration between scientific research, innovation, and international trade to boost the global rice industry.
This marks Mr. Awingobit’s second appearance at the prestigious event, following his participation in the 2024 edition held in the Philippines.
As a key speaker at the summit, Mr. Awingobit underscored the vast potential of Ghana’s rice industry, encouraging investors and international stakeholders to explore opportunities within the local market. He emphasized the need for mutually beneficial partnerships that would empower Ghanaian rice producers, increase export capacity, and enhance competitiveness on the global stage.

Mr. Awingobit’s participation at the conference forms part of IEAG’s broader agenda to position Ghana as a key player in the global rice value chain. Under his leadership, the association continues to advocate for policies and trade reforms that support local producers and ensure fair market access for Ghanaian exporters.
The IEAG has also been instrumental in promoting trade facilitation, capacity building, and collaboration among government agencies, importers, and exporters, aimed at strengthening Ghana’s agricultural export base.
Industry experts say Ghana’s participation at this year’s World Rice Conference offers a strategic opportunity to attract foreign investment and technical partnerships to boost local rice production and reduce import dependency.
The World Rice Conference, organized annually by The Rice Trader with support from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), serves as a global platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, share innovations, and shape the future of the rice industry.
As the 2025 summit concludes on 9 November, Ghana’s delegation is expected to leverage new partnerships and insights to further advance the nation’s rice sector and enhance its role in global food security.
