President Mahama Orders Termination of All SML Contracts Following OSP Probe
President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate termination of all existing contracts between the Government of Ghana and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), following the conclusion of investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The directive, contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, and addressed to the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, mandates that the termination process be executed “swiftly and in full compliance with all applicable financial and legal procedures.”
According to the letter, the decision aligns with government’s commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and the prudent use of public resources.
The move comes after months of public scrutiny and investigative proceedings by the OSP into the controversial revenue assurance contracts awarded to SML. The OSP’s findings, released earlier this week, implicated the company in operational and procedural irregularities, raising concerns about value for money and due process.
The Finance Minister has been tasked to oversee the full termination process and report back to the Presidency on compliance measures undertaken.
The SML contracts, initially awarded under the Ministry of Finance to monitor downstream petroleum, gold, and port operations, have been at the centre of public controversy over alleged inflated payments and breaches of procurement regulations.
