CAFCL: Dreams FC go top of Group C after five goal thriller with Academica Lobito
Two late goals earned Dreams FC a thrilling 3-2 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup victory away to Academica Lobito on Sunday to send them top of Group C.
The Angolans trailed early on when Joao Barros levelled Abdul Aziz Issa’s 10th-minute opener for the visiting Ghanaian side Dreams FC.
But John Antwi put Dreams back in front just before the hour mark to swing the momentum back in the visitors’ favour.
And with the game deep in added time, super-sub Gael Aholou struck the decisive blow to complete a stunning fightback.
There was still time for Samuel Chissapa to pull one back in the 90th minute to ensure a breathless finale.
Yet Dreams clung on to leapfrog Tunisia’s Club Africain and Nigeria’s Rivers United at the Group C summit on head-to-head record.
The three leading sides are locked together on six points heading into the final three rounds of matches.
But Dreams’ dramatic victory underlines their credentials for a quarter-final spot after they came from behind late on for the second straight game.
In contrast, the Angolans prop up the section without a point and appear down and out after a third straight loss.
Yet they provided fierce opposition for Dreams, who needed all their resilience to battle back and steal the points at Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.
