GRIDCo wants transmission service charge tariff increased by 63.9%
Power transmission company, Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) is pushing for a 63.9% increment in tariff charged for its power transmission services.
Per a tariff adjustment document submitted to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) by GRIDCo, the power transmission company proposes that the existing transmission charge of GHS 5.43/kWh be increased to GHS 8.91/kWh for this year – 2022.
The upward adjustment in tariff, GRIDCo asserts considers operating and maintenance costs, depreciation of asset usage, return on regulatory assets base and corporate income tax.
Adding the proposed tariff is a cost-effective transmission tariff that will ensure a reliable and stable national interconnected transmission system (NITS) which will restore confidence in Ghana’s power system for sustainable economic development.
Some of the rationale/objectives underpinning GRIDCo’s tariff submission include increasing cost of maintenance and transmission financing.
